My next LCD monitor will have to be similar to the new Samsung 2342BWX 23 inch LCD monitor. This 16:9 display sports a whopping 2048 x 1152 resolution- easily surpassing standard full 1080p displays that are common for monitors of this class. According to Electronista, the 2342BWX has enough desktop real estate space to fit two letter sized documents side by side – perfect for blogging folks like myself. Other specs to the 2342BWX include a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and a 5ms gray to gray response time. Here’s the cool part – the 2342BWX is priced at $295! Unfortunately it’s only currently available in Korea although international release dates are likely.

Alienware had some of their latest gear on display with the Dell booth at CES 2008. The product getting the most buzz and attention at the Alienware booth was the “Alienware Curved Display” pictured below.

067

According to Alienware, this display is the equivalent of two 24 inch monitors. It has a native resolution of 2880 x 900 (double WXGA+) and is based on DLP rear projection technology. Response time is less than 0.02 ms and it’s basically the first of it’s kind. No word on price but Alienware will release it late this year. Enjoy the pics!

Now if the Dell Crystal 22 inch widescreen doesn’t quite measure up for you in terms of size, then perhaps the new Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP 30 inch Widescreen Flat Panel will do? This new 30 inch monitor features a native resolution of 2560 x 1600, 3000:1 contrast ratios, an integrated HDMI connection, and a whopping 100 percent of the NTSC color gamut (actually higher on the CIE 1976 standard).

Features include:

  • 2560 x 1600 resolution
  • TrueColor Technology (100 percent of the color gamut) supports Adobe 98 color standard
  • 3000:1 contrast ratio
  • VGA, DVI-D with HDCP, S-Video, Component, Composite and HDMI connections
  • 370 cd/m2 brightness
  • 178 degree viewing angle
  • 8ms response time
  • Anti-glare surface
  • 4 USB ports
  • 9 in 2 card reader
  • Measures 22.52-18.98 x 27.43 x 9.35 inches and weighs 34.36 lbs

One small issue - the price. For 30 inches, the Dell 3008WFP will set you back $1999. Ouch.

It certainly does feel like things are changing for the better at Dell doesn’t it? They’ve been unleashing one solid product after another over the last few months - many of which are beautifully designed products. The latest addition - the recently introduced Dell Crystal 22 inch widescreen flat panel monitor. This monitor certainly makes me wish I didn’t recently purchase the HP w2207 22 inch monitor. Why you might ask? It’s simple really - it’s just one beautiful looking monitor. The LCD panel and integrated side speakers appear to float literally right on the 4 mm tempered glass - but that’s not all. There’s the integrated webcam that sits flush with the display, the single cable coming out of the back of the display, and the capacitive touch controls that reside on the front.

065

Specs include:

  • 22 inch widescreen display with 1680 x 1050 resolution at 60Hz
  • Ultra-clear tempered glass measuring 4mm thick
  • Capacitive touch controls
  • Integrated audio speakers
  • 270 cd/m2 brightness
  • 98 percent color gamut
  • 2000:1 contrast ratio
  • 160 degree viewing angle
  • 2ms response time
  • DVI/HDMI with HDCP, Subwoofer out, USB, Power cable - all bundled into a single cable
  • Tilts 2 to 15 degrees backward
  • Measures 16.55 x 26.2 x 7.09 inches

Prices for the Dell Crystal start at $1199. OK.. so maybe I wouldn’t have purchased this monitor given the higher stick price.. but at least I would have considered it briefly! Again, the Dell Crystal looks very very sweet in person.
