Thinking about getting the new Nissan Leaf EV? Well the company finally announced pricing details for the electric vehicle yesterday and it’s better than expected (although I guess it depends on how you look at it).
First the bad news.
The Leaf will set you back $32,780 – yeah that’s a lot.. but then the car qualifies for the largest federal tax credit available which amounts to $7500. If you factor in this credit, the car will set you back approximately $25,280. Not too shabby (but remember it’s tax credit).
Folks living in California get an even better deal thanks to a $5000 statewide rebate bringing the price of the car down to around $20,280 plus or minus. If you live in Georgia, you’ll get a $5000 tax credit. If you live in Oregon, you’ll get a $1500 dollar tax credit.
Don’t want to buy the car outright? Nissan will offer a 36 month lease for $349 a month after an initial payment of $1999.
The car isn’t the only thing you’ll probably need to purchase unfortunately. Most if not all buyers will need to purchase the personal charging dock which operates on a 220 volt supply. Nissan will be providing the home charging stations as part of a one-stop shopping process which includes a home assessment and installation of the dock. AeroVironment will manufacture and install the charging docks. The average cost for the home charger including installation will cost $2200. The charger and the installation will be eligible for a 50 percent federal tax credit of up to $2000.
The Leaf will be available in two trim levels – the SV and the SL.
The SV trim level includes an advanced navigation system and Internet/smart phone connectivity to the vehicle.
The SL trim level adds several convenience features, including rearview monitor, solar panel spoiler, fog lights, and automatic headlights for an additional $940 (MSRP).
I’d jump on the leaf.. if I only had an outlet near my parking spot at home..
