This could be the perfect addition to owners of netbooks - it’s the new Buffalo Technology MiniStation Shinobi 1.8 inch portable hard drive. This super thin external hard drive measures a mere 5mm (or 0.2 inches) thick and includes easy-to-use backup software, mobile applications (such as Firefox and Thunderbird), and Buffalo’s SecureLockMobile software to prevent peeping toms from looking at your data.

The MiniStation Shinobi also comes with a self contained cable management system (handy for us mobile professionals - we need a little management in our lives!) and is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X systems.

The MiniStation Shinobi will be available in October in two sizes - a 30GB drive for $119.99 and a 60GB drive for $169.99.

Here’s an interesting computer peripheral - it’s the new Addonics Dual CF-SATA HDD adapter which takes two compact flash cards and turns them into a single drive usable as a direct 2.5 inch SATA drive replacement in a computer. The two compact flash cards can be configured as RAID 1, RAID 0, or as one large compact flash drive. You can then insert the Dual CF-SATA HDD adapter into a computer using a mounting bracket. The adapter can be installed using the SATA interface or via a USB interface. The best part - the CF cards look like any other drive to the OS - no drivers are needed for this to work. This sounds like a great way to utilize inexpensive CF cards as a power efficient 2.5 inch hard drive replacement. The Dual CF-SATA HDD adapter can be purchased on the Addonics Online Store for $79.99.

power-chips-usb-stick

Poker fans will love this little gadget - it’s the Poker Mate USB Stick. Yes.. we’re talking about a USB storage device in the shape of Poker chips (Yeah.. it isn’t much of a “stick” is it?). If you do get this, do yourself a favor.. don’t confuse it as part of your chip stack in a poker game - especially if you have valuable information stored on the drive - otherwise going “all in” will take on a whole new meaning for you!
