Although USB 3.0 is technically still in its infancy, this hasn’t stopped Super Talent Technology from announcing a new USB 3.0 compatible portable drive called the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 RAIDDrive. With support for transfer speeds up to 10x faster than USB 2.0 drives, the new RAIDDRIVE can deliver transfer speeds up to 200 MB/sec with USB 3.0 ports. If you use a separate UAS Protocol driver with a USB 3.0 port, the SuperSpeed drive can reach speeds up to 320MB/second/

SuperTalent’s SuperSpeed drive is available in three storage capacities – 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The drives measure 95 x 37 x 13.5mm and are fully compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 protocols.

Corsair FlashVoyager GT

Wish your flash drive was just a wee bit faster? You’ll want to check out the newly announced Corsair Flash Voyager GT USB flash drive which the company claims is the world’s fastest 128GB drive.

Corsair manages read speeds of up to 32MB/sec and write speeds of up to 25.6 MB/s (Corsair claims these speeds are limited by the speed of the USB 2.0 bus as well as OS overheard) using a new “revolutionary” design that employs a dual controller architecture – resulting in SLC level performance from MLC NAND flash memory.

The Flash Voyager GT isn’t only fast, it’s also designed to be super durable thanks to its water-resistant rubber housing that’s designed to protect it from accidental damage. (one of my co-workers surely could have used that durability recently).

Expect to find the Corsair Flash Voyager GT now at various retailers.

Here’s the great thing about USB flash drives. They’re small and relatively easy to manufacture so they make great devices to integrate with other devices.. and hence we have convergence. Well.. here’s an interesting example of convergence.. it’s the USB 8GB Flash Drive Lighter. Yes.. we’ve got ourselves one part lighter and one part USB flash drive. PLUS.. the USB flash drive lighter is a refillable lighter at that!  When you’re done using the lighter portion, just slide out the USB connector and hook it up to your PC. ThinkGeek is selling this USB 8GB Flash Drive Lighter for $59.99.

SanDisk_Cruzer_Pattern

Here’s yet another USB flash drive for your consideration – it’s from the folks at SanDisk and it’s called the SanDisk Cruzer Pattern USB flash drive. The Cruzer Pattern includes a clip that makes it easy to attach the drive to nearly anything – a pocket, a bag, or even a backpack strap. Features of the Cruzer Pattern include U3 smart technology which allows you to run applications directly from the drive and as well as providing password protection, your choice in gray or black colors, and availability of two capacities – 1GB or 2GB. The Cruzer Pattern USB flash seems like the perfect fit for kids going back to school this fall and the price seems just right too. The 1GB model has an MSRP of $9.99 while the 2GB model has an MSRP of $14.99.
