Those of you waiting to get Skype on their new 2010 VIERA CAST-enabled Panasonic VIERA Plasma HDTV sets will be thrilled to hear that the two companies have announced the activation of the Skype service as part of VIERA CAST IPTV offerings. Customers will need to purchase the separately available Panasonic Skype enabled communication camera, model TY-CC10W, for $169.95. Combine Skype with a 2010 VIERA CAST Panasonic Plasma HDTV and the TY-CC10W camera, and you’ll be able to make audio/video calls to family and friends from the comfort of the living room couch. All the typical Skype features apply such as free Skype to Skype voice and video calls, low rates for Skype to landline/mobile phone calls, Skype voicemail support, and voice conference calls with up to 24 other parties.

Features of the Panasonic TY-CC10W Skype-enabled camera include:

  • 1280 x 720 resolution
  • USB 2.0 connection
  • 4 unidirectional microphones
  • echo-canceling system
  • audio processing for collecting voices in the living room

2010 Panasonic VIERA Plasma HDTV models which support Skype and the camera include the VT25, VT20, G25, and G20 Series.
