travelmate portable fireplace

travelmate portable fireplace 2

It’s a cold winter night. Snow’s falling outside while you’re inside snuggling with your loved one (or potential loved one). Its the perfect setting for a fireplace romance.. except one little problem. You don’t have a fireplace.

Enter the Travelmate Portable Fireplace - a black powder-coated steel and glass enclosure with an adjustable steel fuel-holder. Yes.. a portable fireplace folks. Just pick up the Travelmate Portable Fireplace and bring it with you wherever you need a little heat or mood lighting. The unit measures 20 x 28 x 8 inches and weighs around 55 lbs… so chances you won’t be moving it all the time… but at least it’s movable! Powering the fireplace is a bio-ethanol liquid which is not included.

The one problem? The unit costs a whopping $3300.00

neatsheets

Yes I know, this isn’t technology news but hey - it can be used with some gadgets so HA! It’s the NeatSheets bedding and it’s basically bed sheets done smartly. NeatSheets feature items such as optional convenience pockets along the side, smart tagging to allow you to figure out what kind of sheets you’re pulling out of the closet, 100 percent breathable cotton, and French seams and satin stitching. Perhaps the biggest thing is the side convenience pockets. Store your items there when you head to sleep - say a cell phone or an iPod. Yes.. why didn’t someone thing of this earlier eh? Neat huh? Yup.. that’s why these are the NeatSheets.

sync1

sync2

Here’s an office desk design idea that seems perfect for a show like HGTV’s “Design on a Dime”. It’s the “Sync Desktop” office desk by Gareth Battensby and it’s designed to integrate the PC into an office desk while remaining practical. The Sync desk design integrates a tower PC, a foldaway monitor and wireless keyboard, and a USB hub. I absolutely love the idea of having a foldaway LCD monitor. When you’re not in need of the display, simply fold it down and reclaim additional desktop space. Love it. Other nice ideas include an easily accessible power button and DVD drive. Very cool ideas - hopefully someone will actually attempt to make it!

gravity lamp Lifting weights never felt so good thanks to this concept lamp designed by students over at Virginia Tech University. It’s called the Gravia lamp and it’s a set of ten LED lights powered by energy produced from a weight that slowly lowers over time. So what’s the catch? Well once the weight lowers to the bottom, you need to lift the weight back up to the top. Hey .. it’s good for you AND for the environment? The fact that the lamp uses LED lights also means it’ll last a LONG time. Good job folks!

sony_rht-g900-web Are you looking for that perfect television stand to go with your new Sony BRAVIA LCD HDTV set? Are you also a little constrained on space when it comes to setting up a surround sound system? Then you might be interested in a new all-in-one furniture/sound system unit from Sony called the RHT-G900. It’s a complete television stand designed for the Sony BRAVIA lineup of television sets (up to 46 inches in size) AND it comes with built-in left, center, and right speakers, as well as a subwoofer right into the rack.

Looking for surround sound? No problem there either! The system comes with 5.1 channel virtual surround sound thanks to the usage of S-Force PRO technology. Other interesting tech specs include HDMI inputs, digital audio inputs, a digital media port, preset equalizers, and support for Dolby Digital decoding, DTS decoding, MPEG-2, AAC, and PCM decoding.

The RHT-G900 measures 44 x 16 x 19 inches and supposedly weighs around 119 pounds. The unit looks to be coming to Japan first - no word on how much the stand/speaker system is nor if and when it will be coming to the US.

autograph-monroe-bedstead_48

If living the high life is having an LCD TV at the foot of your bed, then you might be interested in this bed frame - the Autograph Monroe Bedstead with TV option. With the press of a button, a flatscreen TV will rise up and lower itself into the foot of the bed. (I guess that means the kids won’t be allowed on the bed anymore!)

How much for this supposed luxurious item? A king sized bed in dark brown will set you back £2799.99. Ouch.

landspeeder

lounger

File this one under “Got to see this in person!”.  An inventor from West Sussex named Keith Dixon is set to launch a new armchair that floats on magnets called the “Lounger.” Inspired by items found in Star Wars, the Lounger floats on a series of magnets at heights up to 14 inches high. A pair of connecting rods prevents the seat from slipping off to the side yet allows vertical movement.

According to this article over at the Times Online, Mr. Dixon took approximately four years to design and develop the Lounger at the cost of tens of thousands of pounds. The chair will go on sale on March 14th for £5,875 with 2000 units being manufactured by his company called Hoverit.

The chair itself has a base and a see-through acrylic seat and was inspired by the Landspeeder vehicles from the Star Wars films. The chair uses three non-electric magnets which are powerful enough to support a person of 19 stones (which is 266 lbs).

The Lounger may cause some problems along the way though. First, folks with heart pacemakers should NOT sit on the Lounger. The magnets on the chair may discolor the picture of a television set within a range of 4 to 5 feet and you probably will want to keep your credit cards away from the chair since the magnets may accidentally wipe your cards.
