mPower Emergency Illuminator comes with reserve battery with 20 year shelf life
mPower Technologies was on hand last night showing off their latest product – the mPower Emergency Illuminator. Designed by Porsche Design Studio, the Emergency Illuminator acts as both a high-intensity LED flashlight as well as backup power for electronic devices via an accessory USB connection.
Key to the Emergency Illuminator is its use of two sets of batteries – a primary CR123 3 volt lithium batteries and a secondary reserve lithium battery with an amazing shelf life of at least 20 years.
The second battery, known as the mPower On Command Reserve Battery, sits in a second compartment and is designed by mPower themselves. You simply twist the knob to activate the reserve battery which then goes on to provide approximately two hours of continuous power to the LED light. What enables the shelf life of 20 years is a custom-designed internal barrier and triggering mechanism which prevents the liquid electrolyte from interacting with the solid electrodes until the battery is manually activated by the user.
The flashlight also comes with a USB type A plug adapter which allows it to act as a charging source for many small electronics such as mobile phones. A twist of the lens bezel allows it to switch between lamp mode and USB mode.
The mPower Emergency Illuminator will be available in March at www.mpowertech.com for a price of $289.00
