CrunchPad reborn as JooJoo.. oh and its $500 bucks
Barely a week after Michael Arrington of TechCrunch announced the untimely death of the CrunchPad, the tablet is indeed back from the dead but reincarnated as the JooJoo. Announced by former partner company Fusion Garage, the JooJoo is a touch-sensitive Linux-based slate designed for simple browsing of the web. Here’s what you need to know about the JooJoo (courtesy of CNET and Chandra Rathakrishnan’s videocast):
- Will soon be available for pre-order at $499 (well more than the $300 dollar price point hoped for by Michael Arrington)
- Shipments expected in the next 8 to 10 weeks
- 12.1 inch capacitive touch-screen display
- Small local storage for caching data
- Wi-Fi connectivity
- Boot into the browser in 9 seconds
- 5 hours of battery life
- Weighs under 2.5 pounds
- Power button is the only button on the device
- Black color
- Displays full HD video
Make sure to check out the JooJoo website on Friday December 11th at midnight PST for the premiere of the slate.
Our biggest beef with the JooJoo thus far (aside from the dubious origins of the slate) is indeed the price. At $500 dollars, I’d rather have a laptop.
