Could there be new MacBook Pro systems coming out shortly? If you take stock in Best Buy’s inventory tracking system, then there might very well be three new models coming out on the 10th. This information is being reported by MacRumors.com which received some inventory snapshots of three new SKUs that appear to be coming to Best Buy shortly. These new SKUs appear to be at the same price points as the current MacBook Pro models - $1999, $2499, and $2799. If these updates are indeed real, it’s not clear if they will be worthwhile at this point. Rumored upgrades include support for Intel Penryn CPUs, and multi-touch touchpads.

art_MacBook CNET has published a review of the latest version of the MacBook notebook via CNN.com here. The latest update to the popular entry level notebook was actually from November when Apple introduced the Intel Santa Rosa chipset and bumped up the clock speed of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor to 2.2 GHz. The notebook also comes with the latest OS from Apple which of course is Leopard. Here’s a blurb from CNET:

The latest update, from November 2007, bumped up the top available CPU to a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and added Intel’s Santa Rosa platform and slightly better integrated graphics, resulting in a modest boost in performance.

macbook_white_550x341_270x167 News.com is reporting that Apple is looking into several reports about faulty Seagate hard drives within the MacBook product line. The reports first surfaced earlier this year via Retrodata - a U.K. based data recovery firm. Apparently certain 2.5 inch Seagate hard drives have a “manufacturing flaw that causes the drive heads to scratch the surface of the drive and cause major problems.” To see if you might have one of these drives, take a look at your firmware revision number within the System Profiler. If you get a 7.01, consider backing up your data and replacing the drive.
