Windows 7 on Macbook Pro 

Curious to see what the pre-beta build of Windows 7 would be like on a Mac system? Well the folks at PC Magazine/Gearlog did exactly this by installing the pre-beta build delivered at last week’s PDC on a new MacBook Pro system using Bootcamp. Unfortunately it appears the Mac drivers for Windows Vista did not help with Windows 7 as various features were not working including wireless networking, and mouseover preview. They’ve posted a video up on YouTube (shown below).

  • New notebooks will take a page from the MacBook Air construction. Single unibody aluminum construction.
  • Yes, Apple is using NVIDIA chipsets over Intel chipsets for the next generation notebooks. The chipset is the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M which combines your traditional motherboard chipset with a graphics core on a single die. 70 percent goes to the GPU and the rest goes to the chipset functionality. 55 percent performance improvement over the current NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT in the current MacBook Pro.
  • New multi-touch glass trackpad which is 39 percent larger than before. Added up to four finger gesture support
  • New MacBook Pro system features
  • Glass instant-on LED displays
  • All connectors on the left hand side
  • Precision aluminum unibody enclosure
  • NVIDIA chipset/graphics – NVIDIA GeForce 9400M built right into the Pro

  • Original MacBook models will be reduced from $1099 to $999
  • New MacBook models feature corner to corner glass, precision aluminum uni-body enclosure, LED display, next generation graphics, multi-touch glass touchpad, mini display port connector etc
  • Two new MacBook models which fit between the old MacBook and the new MacBook Pro systems:
    • $1299 – 13.3 inch display, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 160GB HDD, slot loading SuperDrive
    • $1599 – 2.4GHz processor, 250GB HDD, backlit keyboard
