Canon introduced a new network camera on Monday called the VB-C60 Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Network Camera. This compact camera allows for remote video monitoring over IP networks and features a 40x optical zoom 56 degree wide angle lens. Other features of the VB-C60 include:

  • Full 360 degree horizontal field of view,
  • Panorama Image Creation which allows an entire viewing range to be stitched together into one image
  • Pre-set Tour function which allows for up to 20 camera positions to be pre-set and viewed at specified intervals
  • Image stabilizer to compensate for image blur caused by external vibrations
  • Smart Shade Control which automatically adjusts the contrast between bright and dark areas of an image for optimal detail display
  • Auto Day/Night Capability
  • Canon DIGIC NET processor
  • Simultaneous encoding of Motion-JPEG and MPEG-4 video in high quality VGA at a full 30 fps
  • Supports up to 30 simultaneous clients
  • Full duplex audio communication
  • IPv5 and IPsec support
  • Supports Power Over Ethernet technology

The VB-C60 also comes with Motion Detection support and Subject Auto-Tracking support - two great features if the folks at Ghost Hunters ever want to upgrade their camera systems! The VB-C60 can be mounted in an upright position or on the ceiling. The suggested retail price for the Canon VB-C60 is $1699.
