WD TV Live Plus 1

WD (Western Digital) unveiled their third generation media player today with the announcement of the new WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player. This is the first WD media player to feature Netflix streaming support – allowing Netflix members the ability to watch thousands of TV shows and movies directly on their big screen TV set. Netflix members will also be able to browse and add movies to their instant queue directly via the TV Live Plus HD Media Player.

Netflix streaming isn’t the only thing the unit can handle of course. The TV Live Plus HD Media Player supports streaming of media content from a variety of online services (YouTube, Flickr, Pandora, Live365, etc.) and of course allows you to stream multimedia content locally from connected external hard drives, networked PCs, or NAS devices. The player is also compatible with Windows 7’s “Play To feature” which allows users to initiate and control the streaming of music, videos, or photos to the media player directly from any Windows 7 PC on the network.

Features and specs to the TV Live Plus HD Media Player include the following:

  • 1080p video playback and navigation
  • Includes remote control
  • Animated navigation menus
  • Wireless ready via optional wireless adapter
  • Ethernet port
  • Two USB ports
  • Transfer files by copying, moving, or deleting files stores on a USB drive, a network drive, camcorder, or a camera to the attached USB drive using on-screen menus
  • Works with digital cameras, digital video cameras, and other digital imaging devices supporting the Picture Transfer Protocol
  • Advanced navigation options include thumbnail and list views, media library, and search
  • Photo viewing to create custom slide shows, zoom, pan, and search
  • Movie viewing with fast-forward, rewind, pause, zoom and pan, view subtitles, and search
  • Music playback with fast-forward, rewind, pause, shuffle, repeat, and search
  • HDMI 1.3 port, composite video, and component video output
  • SPDIF digital output

  • Video – AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS, WMV9  
  • Photo – JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP, PNG
  • Audio – MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital, DTS
  • Playlist – PLS, M3U, WPL
  • Subtitle – SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB, SMI

Additionally:

  • MPEG2 MP@HL up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • MPEG4.2 ASP@L5 up to 1280x720p30 resolution and no support for global motion compensation.
  • WMV9/VC-1 MP@HL up to 1280x720p60 or 1920x1080p24 resolution. VC-1 AP@L3 up to 1920x1080i30, 1920x1080p24 or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • H.264 BP@L3 up to 720x480p30 or 720x576p25 resolution. H.264 MP@L4.1 and HP@4.1 up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30, or 1280x720p60 resolution.
  • An audio receiver is required for multi-channel surround sound digital output.
  • Compressed RGB JPEG formats only and progressive JPEG up to 2048×2048.
  • Single layer TIFF files only.
  • Uncompressed BMP only.
