Toshiba’s Qosmio laptop lineup just got a bit more interesting with the announced addition of three new models - the Qosmio G50/G55, Qosmio X305 and Qosmio F55. Each of these laptops are tailored for specific needs in the areas of gaming, multimedia, and mobility technology.
First up is the Qosmio G50/G55 which also happens to be the world’s first laptop to feature a “parallel media co-processor” in the form of the Cell processor. Yup.. you heard me correct - the same Cell processor found in the Sony PlayStation 3 is making an appearance in this laptop. Toshiba was one of the co-developers of the Cell processor and is now calling it the Quad Core HD Processor within the Qosmio G50/G55. With the Quad Core HD processor in place, heavy multimedia tasks such as video encoding and video upscaling can now be moved to it and away from the main CPU. Other features of the laptop include a 500 GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics with 512MB DDR3 memory, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, subwoofer, Dolby Home Theater, and a 18.4 inch widescreen TruBrite HD display.
Next up is the Qosmio X305 - a laptop that’s really a gaming rig. The notebook features a 17 inch widescreen 1680 x 1050 TruBrite display, an NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX GPU with up to 1GB of memory, dual hard drives with up to 400GB of space, an Intel Core 2 Extreme dual core processor, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, powered sub-woofer, HDMI and SPDIF outputs, and up to 4GB of memory
Finally if you want gaming performance AND mobile practicality, there’s the new Qosmio F50/F55 laptop featuring a 15.4 inch widescreen TruBrite HD display. What makes this notebook particularly interesting is the built-in GPS receiver which is a first for Toshiba. The notebook comes with Garman mapping software which turns your notebook into a portable navigation device. Other features include an NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS GPU with 512MB RAM, and a eSATA port.
Other common features for all the new Qosmio laptops include support for REGZA LINK HDMI technology, new chassis design with Fusion finish, feathertouch multimedia buttons, flush-mounted Touchpad, high speed eSATA port, and Harman Kardon high fidelity bass reflex speakers with built-in subwoofer.
All three laptops are due in the middle of July.
