NETGEAR announces ReadyNAS Ultra family of NAS products with DVR network storage support
NETGEAR updates their ReadyNAS product lineup with yesterday’s introduction of the new ReadyNAS Ultra family of 2-bay, 4-bay, and 6-bay network storage systems. These products offer up a series of firsts for NAS devices including:
- 1st TiVo compatible DVR network storage device
- 1st storage device with transcoding capabilities from Orb
- 1st storage device with media shifting capabilities from Skifta
Built around a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom processor, the ReadyNAS Ultra features:
- Support for continuous backups from PC/Mac with Memeo Premium Backup
- 1GB of RAM
- Two Gigabit Ethernet ports
- Three USB 2.0 ports
- X-RAID2 auto volume expansion technology
- Multiple volume support for RAID 0, 1, 5, 6
- Journaling mode
- User, group, and share-level quotes
- Built-in iSCSI target service
- Supports the following storage protocols: CIFS/SMB for Windows, AFP for Mac OS, NSF for Linux/UNIX, HTTP/S for web browsers, FTP/S support

The NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 4 ($599.99 MSRP diskless and $899.99 MSRP 2 x 2TB) and NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 6 ($899.99 MSRP diskless and $1349.99 MSRP 3 x 2TB) are available for immediate pre-order at Amazon.com with shipping starting in mid-July. the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 will be shipping in October.
