The new series, which is a part of their Embedded Slim series lineup, consists of two new models – the XS29 and XS29F. The XS29 utilizes the VIA Nano L Series processor while the XS29F is a fanless design utilizing the VIA Nano U Series processor. Given that the XS29F is fanless, you’ll be able to enjoy a noise-free, dust-free, and maintenance-free system.

These systems are ideal for individuals looking to perform light processing work such as web surfing, checking email, working on documents etc. while also maintaining great power efficiency and conservation.

Shuttle will show off the XS29 series at the upcoming Computex show in Taipei Taiwan with availability also expected in June.

Remember the Shuttle SDXi Carbon? That was the water-cooled small form factor system first unveiled at CES 2009. Well the system is finally available for purchase – albeit as part of a complete configurable system package. The SDXi Carbon was made possible thanks to a custom built cooling (via the Liquid I.C.E. cooling technology) solution, a custom built case, and a custom built motherboard. With a starting price of $2599.99, you get the following:

SDXi case cover with custom paint job

Windows Vista Home Premium OS

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3 GHz processor

2GB RAM

250GB SATA300 7200RPM HDD

22X DVD+-RW Dual Layer drive

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB graphics

Gigabit Ethernet

Logitech Internet 350 USB Desktop black keyboard/mouse combo

Integrated 7.1 channel audio

1 year warranty

Of course there’s plenty of upgrade options. If you’re going for a water-cooled SFF box, you might as well amp it up by upgrading to the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of storage space, Blu-ray burner, and a GeForce GTX 285 1GB Graphics.

Oh and in case you’re wondering why one would want a water-cooled small form factor system.. it’s all about performance, cooler temps, and of course, little to no sound. Yes.. all things that hard-core gamers want.

Here’s a new prototype system from Shuttle which hopefully will see the light of day at some point this year – it’s the Shuttle H9 5800 based on the Shuttle SX58H9 barebones package. Whoops) and a cover in the front that opens up to reveal the optical drive bay on the inside. Specs include:

Support for Core i7 Extreme Edition 965 processor

Standalone here means it comes with an embedded 7 inch touch panel that displays a media server gadget application designed to deliver various applications.

Shuttle claims that the D10 can be used in applications such as home surveillance simply by adding in surveillance software and hardware.

There will be three different versions of the graphical user interface powered by Linux or Windows. With the user interface, users will be able to access and control multimedia content via the Internet or intranet storage.

There really isn’t a whole lot on this device as of yet so I’ll reserve my thoughts for now. Truth is – doesn’t it look like a regular Shuttle SFF system with an embedded display? If so – it’s simply Shuttle trying to find a different target market for a product that they’re good at developing which is small form factor PCs.

The picture above came from PC Magazine here.

One of the things I missed while being away in Vegas last week was Shuttle’s announcement of a new low cost $199 PC called the KPC Linux PC. According to News.com, the KPC will feature an Intel Celeron processor, an Intel 945GC chipset, 512MB of RAM, and either a 60 GB or 80GB hard drive. The system will not have an optical drive nor will it have a PCIe slot unfortunately. What it DOES have though is one cool looking chassis design with your choice of either red, blue, white, and black colors and a different icon design for each color.

Now if a pre-made system isn’t your thing, you could still go the route of making your own PC and Shuttle has you covered there as well. They are going to sell a $99 barebones version of the KPC Linux PC. You’ll be able to upgrade to an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1GB of memory with the system. Both systems will be available near the end of the first quarter.

No offense to the Linux folks out there but I would be eyeing the KPC as a way to build a cheapo Windows Home Server box. Pop in 1GB of RAM, and 500GB HDD for what.. 150 bucks more and I should be able to build a capable and inexpensive Home Server box. Oh yes.. spend some money for a Windows Home Server license too.
