Apple checks into some MacBook hard drive problems
News.com is reporting that Apple is looking into several reports about faulty Seagate hard drives within the MacBook product line. The reports first surfaced earlier this year via Retrodata - a U.K. based data recovery firm. Apparently certain 2.5 inch Seagate hard drives have a “manufacturing flaw that causes the drive heads to scratch the surface of the drive and cause major problems.” To see if you might have one of these drives, take a look at your firmware revision number within the System Profiler. If you get a 7.01, consider backing up your data and replacing the drive.
