The LiMo Foundation announces the second LiMo compliant device built using the LiMo Platform Release 2 in the form of the new Vodafone 360 Samsung M1 handset. This latest Samsung handset features Vodafone’s customizable 360 user interface which provides “a new set of Internet services for the mobile and PC that gathers all of a customer’s friends, communities, entertainment, and personal favorites in one place.

For those of you not familiar with the LiMo Foundation, the organization was launched in January of 2007 to provide an open and consistent Mobile Linux-based handset operating system. According to their press release, there are now 44 commercially available LiMo-based handsets.

The Samsung M1 has the following features and specs:

  • HSDPA 3.6 Mbps 2100 and EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900  support
  • Linux OS (2.6.24) LiMo R2.0.1
  • 3.2 inch WQVGA TFT display with support for 16 million colors
  • 3 megapixel fixed focus camera with digital zoom
  • Video support includes MPEG4 / H.263/ H.264, Divx, Xvid, WMV /VGA 15fps recording
  • Audio support includes MP3, AAC, AAC+, AAC+(e), WMA, AMR

samsung logo Samsung announced today their first internal Blu-ray/DVD/CD combo drive called the SH-B083. The new drive supports the following features:

  • Reads Blu-ray discs and reads/writes CD/DVDs
  • Reads BD-R and BD-ROM discs at up to 8x speeds
  • Reads CDs at up to 40x and DVDs at up to 16x
  • Average access speed of 350ms
  • Comes with two lenses for more stable reading and writing – one lens for BD read and one lens for CD/DVD read/writes
  • Spherical Aberration Compensation Technology (SACT) improves reading quality on a BD drive whose protective layer does not have a uniform thickness
  • Precision Step Control Technology (PSCT)
  • Four point skew adjustment
  • Optical lens cooling system reduces heat buildup
  • Eco-friendly drive with low power consumption and aerodynamic frame design to lower acoustic noise by preventing pressure concentration in several areas of the bezel and the door

AT&T announced four new mobile phones on Monday – two each from Samsung and Pantech – all of which feature AT&T’s new HTML web browser as well as physical and virtual keyboards. The new models are the Pantech Reveal, Pantech Impact, Samsung Mythic, and Samsung Flight. Here’s what you need to know about each model.

Samsung Intrepid Sprint has a new Windows Mobile smartphone coming and its called the Samsung Intrepid. Featuring Windows Mobile 6.5, the Intrepid supports Sprints’s EV-DO Rev A network, international roaming, and a new customizable Today screen which displays the features the user access the most as well as important information such as new emails, text messages, missed calls, and upcoming appointments.

Features and specs to the Intrepid include:

With the holiday season fast approaching, T-Mobile has decided to announce their upcoming holiday lineup of 3G-enabled mobile phones – including several Android powered headsets from the likes of HTC, Samsung, and Motorola. The new upcoming phones are as follows:

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition:

t-mobile-fender The myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition is the latest Android powered handset to come from T-Mobile’s myTouch family. Slated to come out later this year and designed for music lovers out there, the 3G Fender features a guitar-inspired wood-grain finish, integration of Google web services, a 3.5mm headset jack, a pre-installed 16GB microSD card, and exclusive pre-loaded audio/video clips from iconic musicians out there.  No word on pricing as of yet.

Samsung Behold II:

The Samsung Behold II is the first Android-powered handset from Samsung and T-Mobile and features a 3.2 inch AMOLED touch-screen display, Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface, and support for T-Mobile’s 3G network. The handset comes with Samsung’s exclusive cube menu user interface with easy access to features such as photos, music, videos, the web, Amazon MP3, and YouTube services. Other specs include built-in Google mobile services. Wi-Fi support, support for email and corporate email with Exchange ActiveSync, IM support, text/picture/video messaging, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, five shooting modes and video capabilities, visual voicemail, a built-in MP3 player, up to 16GB of external memory, assisted GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1. Expect the Behold II later this year.

Motorola CLIQ with MOTOBLUR:

Yes – T-Mobile’s got another first for this holiday season and it’s the MOTOROLA CLIQ. The CLIQ is Motorola’s first Android-powered handset and features Motorola’s MOTOBLUR solution which manages and integrates communications – from work email to social networking activity – all to the CLIQ’s home screen. You’ll get synchronized updates from source such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail, and personal/work email. Other features include a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 3.1 inch HVGA full touch-screen display, and two color options- winter white, and titanium. Pre-sales for the CLIQ will begin on October 19th with nationwide sales to begin on November 2nd. The CLIQ will be available for $199 along with a new two-year agreement.

T-Mobile Tap:

T-Mobile Tap The T-Mobile Tap is a stylish, attractive, and affordable touch-screen phone featuring support for T-Mobile 3G network, T-Mobile web2go web browsing, a 2 megapixel camera with video capture and playback, a built-in music player, GPS for location-based services powered by TeleNav, stereo Bluetooth support, and support for personal e-mail, SMS, MMS, and IM. Due out later this year, the Tap will be available in two colors – berry and midnight blue.

Nokia 3711:

T-Mobile 3711 Finally, the Nokia 3711 is a flip-phone with a unique hidden-until-lit external display. Features include support for T-Mobile’s 3G network, T-Mobile’s web2go web browser, built-in GPS for use with Nokia Maps, a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, stereo Bluetooth, Series 40 OS, and support for IM and email. The phone will be available in the coming weeks in a sable finish color. No word on pricing for either the Nokia 3711 or the T-Mobile Tap.

Samsong Omnia Samsung announced last week that their entire lineup of Omnia smartphones would be equipped with Windows Mobile 6.5 once the OS is released by Microsoft. Current owners of Windows-based Omnia phones will also be eligible for upgrades although a timetable has yet to be determined.

Finally Samsung announced the latest model to hit the Omnia series – the B7330 (pictured above). Features of the B7330 include:

  • Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard
  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE support
  • 7.2 Mbps HSDPA/2 Mbps HSUPA radios
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity
