You love that laser mouse of yours but you dread using it when the only surface available to you is a high gloss or glassy surface. Well folks – Logitech finally has a solution for you called Darkfield Laser Technology. I’ll let Logitech describe the actual technology (via their official press release):

“To track on glass (that’s at least 4 mm thick), Logitech Darkfield uses dark field microscopy to detect microscopic particles and micro-scratches on these surfaces, rather than tracking the surface itself. Similar to the way in which our eye sees the clear night sky, the mouse’s sensor sees the clean areas of glass as a dark background with bright dots – the dust. Then, the sensor interprets the movement of these dots to track exactly where you’ve moved the mouse.”

Darkfield Laser Technology is available in two new mice from Logitech – the Logitech Performance Mouse MX and the Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX for mobile users.

If I had one complaint with Logitech Harmony Remote Controls over the last few years it would its inability to control the Sony PlayStation 3 console thanks to the lack of built-in Bluetooth wireless connectivity. It’s a pain I tell ya – if I want to watch a Blu-ray movie, the Sony PS3 controller needs to be accessible in order for me to control the console.

HOWEVER, it appears this problem is now remedied thanks to the availability of the new Logitech Harmony Adapter for the PlayStation 3 console. Think of this adapter as basically a proxy between a Harmony Universal Remote Control and the Sony PS3 console – receiving and transforming commands from the Harmony remote into Bluetooth wireless commands for the PS3. All I can say is – it’s about time.

Features include:

Works with all Logitech Harmony Remotes

Supports all 51 PS3 commands

Compact low-profile design

Guided online setup

Always-on wireless link to PS3

Digital Trends has published a review of the Logitech Squeezebox Boom here on their website. Think of the Squeezebox Boom as a boombox with wireless access to your computer and Internet’s digital music content. Features on this player include a 30 watt digital amplifier, the SqueezeNetwork online music service (which provides access to services such as Pandora, Rhapsody, Sirius etc), 802.11g wireless support, and support for a wide variety of music formats including MP3, FLAC, WMA, WMA Lossless, AAC, WAV, and AIFF. Here’s what they thought of the portable player.

The Logitech Squeezebox Boom is, to date, the best sounding media streaming system we have tested; you can tell that a lot of time and money was put into the design of this system.

All this doesn’t come cheap though. The MSRP of the Squeezebox Boom is $299.99.

LaptopMag published a review of the small Bluetooth enabled Logitech diNovo Mini keyboard here on this website. I must be honest with you – I lusted after this keyboard when it was first announced but unfortunately by the time the keyboard shipped, my HTPC was no longer in the living room. However, if I were to ever have a home theater PC in the living room, you could be sure that I’d get this keyboard. Here’s what LaptopMag thought of the device:

At $149, the Logitech diNovo Mini may cost more than most are willing to pay for a wireless keyboard/mouse device, but if you have a PC set up as a media center, and are tired of looking at that bulky keyboard lying around your living room, it’s worth every penny.

Yeah.. start saving up your pennies for this keyboard. Oh yeah – this keyboard is also compatible with the Sony PlayStation 3 in case you need a keyboard for that system too.

Logitech is looking to make the driving experience a tad bit more realistic on the Nintendo Wii with the introduction of the new Logitech Speed Force Wireless racing wheel. This is the first force feedback wheel for the Wii and will work with the upcoming EA title – Need for Speed Undercover (with Maggie Q!!).

The Logitech Speed Force Wireless wheel features a single piece design which is usable whether you’re sitting on your couch, arm chair, or floor. The design comes with a expandable lap rest which means you won’t need to clamp the wheel onto a desk or table. There’s also built-in gas and brake controls right on the wheel itself.

Connectivity wise, the wheel wirelessly transmits information over the 2.4GHz wireless spectrum. All you’ll need to do is plug the included USB wireless receiver into the Wii console and start driving away in your favorite game. The wheel is not entirely free of cables as you’ll need to plug in a power cord to power the device. (what no battery powered wheel here?!?!)

The Logitech Speed Force Wireless wheel will be available in the U.S. and Europe starting in November (just in time for the holiday shopping season) for a price of $99.99.
