lenovo 5

Well look at  what came in the mail today! It’s the new Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard model N5901. We profiled the keyboard right before CES but I honestly forgot that I had placed an order for the unit until today :)

Stay tuned for better pictures of the device as well as a preview of the device. In the meantime, enjoy my hazy iPhone 3G pictures of the box and the unit.

Lenovo-IdeaPad-U1-Hybrid-2

Lenovo-IdeaPad-U1-Hybrid-1

As you can probably tell by now, Lenovo had one of the more interesting product booths last night at CES Unveiled. Joining the new product intros was the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid – the industry’s first hybrid notebook system.

096

What makes this a “hybrid” system? It’s actually two computers in one form factor. In a regular operations with the 11.6 inch screen docked, the U1 is a standard notebook running an Intel Core 2 Duo SU4100 processor and Windows 7 Home Premium. However, slide the screen out and the system transforms into a tablet running a 1GHz Snapdragon processor along with Lenovo’s customized widget-based Linux OS.

098

The U1 Hybrid display is multi-touch enabled and the system apparently supports seamless switching between the two OS’s. Watch a webpage when the screen is docked and then watch the same page when you pull the screen out as a separate tablet.

099

Battery life is expected to be around 10 hours in notebook mode and 8 hours in slate mode. Other notable features include

  • Bluetooth, 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi connectivity and optional 3G networking
  • Two USB 2.0 ports
  • One combination eSATA/USB port
  • VGA and HDMI port
  • 4 in 1 memory card ready
  • 128GB SSD for the notebook and 16GB of flash for the slate
  • Up to 4GB of RAM for the notebook and 512MB of RAM for the slate
  • Built-in video camera
  • Built-in stereo speakers with integrated microphone with echo cancellation
  • Notebook weight of 3.7 lbs and 1.6 lbs for the slate

The U1 Hybrid is expected to come out this summer for a price of $999.

Intel Pine Trail shows up in two new Lenovo netbook systems today – the IdeaPad S10-3t and S10-3 (above). While both systems offer the latest Pine Trail features including the integrated graphics/processor core, the S10-3t also happens to be the industry’s first multitouch capacitive convertible netbook tablet. This apparently means it’s built with Lenovo’s NaturalTouch responsive fingertip touch-screen technology as opposed to pressure touch technology resulting in an “optimal netbook user touch experience.”

091

090

Like other convertible systems, the S10-3t has a screen that swivels 180 degrees and can be folded down thereby converting the netbook into a slate oriented tablet PC.

Both the S10-3t and the S10-3 come with the newly announced Intel Atom N470 processor (which is clocked at 1.86Ghz vs the 1.66GHz clock speed of the previously announced N450 processor of the Pine Trail platform), a 320GB HDD, built-in stereo speakers, Dolby headphone audio, and Quick Start 2.0 instant-on functionality which provides users a quick means to access applications and the web in a few seconds without needing to boot-up Windows. Also notice the S10-3 has a new island-style keyboard which I love!

Both systems are available this month with the S10-3t starting at $499.99 while the S10-3 starts at $349.99.  Via NetbookTech.com

Lenovo announced the world’s first Qualcomm Snapdragon-based smartbook today in the form of the Lenovo Skylight. Featuring a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, the Skylight is super light, super thin, supports 3G connectivity, and offers 10+ hours of battery life with practically instant resume-on capabilities.

Here are pictures of the Skylight from the outside. As you can see, it’s super thin and weighs less than 2 pounds.

071

074

Open up the Skylight and you’ll find a beautiful 10 inch display as well as a full-sized keyboard.

065

The internals of the Skylight include the 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, 20GB of standard flash, Wi-Fi connectivity, and support for 3G connectivity (via AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband).

There’s no solid state drive on the inside but that’s ok because you can add additional capacity through USB-based Lenovo flash drives (shown above as the thing that’s sticking out of the Skylight) as well as external flash media through a slot.

066

The Skylight runs a Linux-based OS complete with a custom user interface featuring “live web gadgets.” Users will be able to check Google Gmail, update Facebook status, view YouTube videos, and browse the Internet. The system comes with more than 18 pre-loaded web gadgets with more expected. Oh and yes – it supports 720p video playback (they showed the unit playing back a Star Trek MPEG-4 trailer).

The Lenovo Skylight will be coming out in April for an unsubsidized price of $499 at www.lenovo.com. AT&T will also sell the Skylight with a new two-year AT&T DataConnect mobile broadband plan as well as Data Connect Pass pay-as-you-go plans.

Stay tuned for more info on the Skylight as CES 2010 progresses.
