Kyocera announced that they will begin mass production of a new glass/glass touch panel for LCDs in October. Unlike traditional film/glass touch panels, a glass/glass touch panel uses glass for both the main body side and the “touch” side of a touch panel. This leads to a touch panel that’s more durable, yields higher transparency, and is clearer overall. The company expects to produce 10,000 units of glass/glass touch panels per month in the first year, ramping up to 50,000 units per month after three years.  The initial touch panels will be 5.7 inch and 6.2 inch panels although Kyocera will also handle customizations between 3.5 inches to 10.4 inches.
