Now here’s a pretty cool new gadget. It’s the newly announced JVC Everio GZ-X900 (or Everio X for short) “dual-use camera” – capable of shooting both high definition video and high resolution digital still images. This lightweight, compact camera is capable of capturing 9 megapixel digital stills as well as near Full HD AVCHD video. Although it’s not entirely evident in these product images here, the Everio X is indeed a compact camera – capable of fitting into your shift pocket and weighing around 0.66 pounds.

Features of the GZ-X900 include:

10.3 megapixel CMOS sensor

Shoots 9 megapixel stills (no interpolation) and Full HD video with 1000 TV lines of horizontal resolution (ok so it’s not exactly 1920 x 1080)

10x slow motion shooting plays back 2.4 seconds of recorded video over the span of 24 seconds

Shoot at 3 ultra-high speeds – 120 frames per second, 300 frames per second, or 600 frames per second – the faster the speed, the slower the playback motion. At 600 fps, the resolution is 640 x 72.

Up to six 9 megapixel stills can be shot at 15 images per second

Shoot 5 megapixel digital stills while simultaneously recording Full HD video. Photos can be shot at shutter speeds as fast as 1/4000 second without interrupting video recording

JVC’s new proprietary optical image stabilization (OIS) technology

KONICA MINOLTA HD LENS with 5x optical zoom

JVC HD Gigabrid Premium image processing engine

Face Detection Technology

HDMI 1.3 with x.v.Color

Records video and digital stills to SDHC memory cards

Approximately the size of a “chunky smartphone”

Top-mounted zoom and record buttons with a second set next to the LCD screen

Camera is black with silver accents with the right side featuring a textured carbon fiber-like finish for a secure grip

Measures 2.6 x 4.88 x 1.46 inches

All this coolness does come at a price. The JVC Everio GZ-X900 will be coming out in June for a price of $999.95.

Targeting digital imaging professionals and enthusiasts, JVC announces their latest full HD LCD TV monitor – the 42 inch LT-42WX70. What makes this display ideal for digital imaging folks out there? It’s all in the colors. According to JVC, the LT-42WX70 provides accurate reproductions of “both video and still photographs”. Making this possible is the displays support for a much wider color gamut than it typically found in today’s HDTV sets. The super slim display supports 100 percent of the HDTV broadcasting (sRGB.904) color space and 96 percent of the Adobe RGB color space. Not too shabby for an LCD display eh?

Other features of the JVC LT-42WX70 include the following:

52 picture quality adjustment properties

GENESSA Picture Engine

Color modes include Wide (the TV’s color space), Normal (ITU-R BT.709; HDTV standards), x.v.Color (xvYCC extended gamut), sRGB (same primaries as HDTV) and Adobe RGB.

Real Bit Driver processes in 12-bit, and so up-converts 8-bit HD broadcasting and DVD signals or 10-bit Blu-ray signals into 12-bit Deep Color signals

120Hz Clear Motion Drive III reduces blurring

3D real time, motion-estimated Hadamard noise reduction

Curved pedestal-style stand which you can dock a separate available tuner

The low profile tuner can be placed either horizontally or vertically, or hung on the wall

ENERGY STAR 3.0 rating

Three HDMI CEC terminals

D-Sub 15 with component video, and an audio input jack

The JVC LT-42WX70 will be available in April – no word on pricing as of yet.

JVC unveiled their 2009 Everio camcorder lineup today – introducing a collection of high definition and standard definition camcorders available in a variety of storage mediums, colors, and capabilities. On the storage front, there are models that support recording to hard drives, recording to dual memory cards (SD cards), and recording to internal flash memory.

One prevalent feature found across all the new 2009 Everio models is the notion of “One Touch” sharing. All models come with a One Touch Export function via a Windows application which makes it easy to export videos directly into your iTunes library – thereby making the content available on your iPod or iPhone. The new models also support One Touch Uploading for easy uploading to YouTube and One Touch DVD Creation for easy burning of content direct to DVD.

Other common features found in all 2009 Everio models include the following:

Everio MediaBrowser software for easy to search calendar-type GUI for indexing and searching of videos

Digest Playback – automatically selects highlighted scenes from among the recorded content using proprietary algorithm and plays back content similar to a “coming attractions” movie trailer

Updated Laser Touch Operation

Opening LCD monitor automatically opens up the built-in lens cover and powers up the camcorder

Closing the monitor closes the lens cover and shuts down the power

Quick Restart feature allows you to record in about one second after the LCD is reopened

New design for easy and elegant shooting

The new 2009 Everio lineup consists of three Full HD models, three standard definition Everio G series models, and two standard definition Everio S series of memory camcorders. With that said, here’s what you need to know about the new models.

High Definition Everio Camcorders

All the 2009 HD Everios feature:

1/4.1-inch 3.05 megapixel CMOS image sensor

Full HD recording (1920 x 1080p 60 fps progressive signal)

GENESSA processing technology

HDMI v.1.3 with x.v.Color

KONICA MINOLTA HD Lens – developed specifically for Everio

20x high optical zoom lens

New AVCHD UXP mode supports up to 24Mbps for detailed images. This mode is ideal for Blu-ray or external hard drive recording

The three full HD Everio models are as follows:

Everio GZ-HM200

SD/SDHC Card Dual Slot

Available in Onyx Black, Sapphire Blue, Garnet Red

The new JVC NX-T10 2.1 channel home theater system is a unique low profile system consisting of a main unit, two compact omni-directional main speakers, and a powered subwoofer. The real claim to fame the system is with the main unit which can be placed flat, or stood vertically, or even hung on the wall.

Features of the NX-T10 include:

DVD receiver

Pair of repeater HDMI inputs

HDMI output with 1080p upconversion

HDMI CEC compatible

Dolby Digital and DTS decoding support

DivX playback

iPod dock

System video output allows playback of iPod stored video

USB Host for playback of music files stored on a USB mass storage device or for recording CDs directly onto a USB storage device

The two compact main speakers can also be wall hung and feature an omni-directional design – each containing one forward firing driver and a second upward-firing driver with a diffuser. This upward firing drive creates a simulated surround sound effect without the need for additional rear speakers. The subwoofer cabinet has five separate amps – main left, main right, surround left, surround right, and subwoofer.

I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to drop by the JVC booth at CES 2009 but luckily we have their press releases so let’s take a look at what new products are in store for the new year.

First up, we’ve got two new DVD/VCR recorders from JVC – the DR-MV80B and the DR-MV150B. Yes, apparently people still want a VCR – mostly because consumers probably still have loads of home video on VHS tapes. Both models support VHS to DVD dubbing – a nice feature to have if you are one of those with loads of home video – as well as 1080p upconversion via HDMI. Both models support DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-RAM discs for recording and playback. The devices can also read file formats such as JPEG, MP3, and WMA and support Dolby Digital and DTS HD decoding.

The DR-MV150B adds an ATSC tuner into the mix – allowing you to record either standard definition or high definition content. The DR-MV80B lacks the tuner but comes with JVC’s Timer Link which senses a signal from a connected set-top box, automatically powers up the recorder, and begins recording. Recording stops when the program ends.

Both recorders have HDMI, component and S-Video outputs, composite outputs and inputs, and coaxial/optical audio outputs.

The DR-MV80B will be available for $199.95 while the DR-MV150B will be available for $249.95. Both will be available this spring.

So let’s see – we’ve got iPod docks all over the place these days. We have standalone iPod docks, we have iPod docks as part of speaker systems, we have iPod docks as part of portable speaker systems or even boom boxes. Yes.. we have iPod docks integrated into LCD displays also and yes.. we have iPod dock stands for standalone A/V receivers. THUS, it would only make sense for someone to come out with an LCD HDTV that comes with an integrated iPod dock. That’s exactly what JVC did last week with the introduction of four new HDTV sets – three of which offer full HD resolutions. The new iPod dock is called the TeleDock and it’s a flip-down iPod dock located at the base of the TV set providing a direct connection for playback on the TV set.

The four new models are the 32-inch LT-32P679, 42-inch LT-42P789, 47-inch LT-47P789 and the 52-inch LT-52P789. The LT-32P679 is only model NOT a 1080p model (offering what JVC calls 768 p resolution).

Once you dock an iPod to the JVC HDTV set, a menu will appear on the television screen allowing you to control playback on the iPod. The iPod can also be controlled by the TV’s remote control which includes a circular keypad that has a control scheme similar to the iPod’s control wheel.

Other features on the new sets include:

Displays song title and artist name during music playback

During video playback, low resolution files can be displayed in a small screen mode. Higher resolution video files can be shown in nine aspect modes

You can also play music during television programming

Universal remote control

New on-screen menu system

Side-mounted USB photo viewer

ATSC/QAM tuner

Three HDMI inputs, two component inputs, one S-video input, SPDIF input and analog audio output

10 watts per channel speaker system

Prices are as follows: LT-32P679 has an MSRP of $999.99; the LT-42P789 has an MSRP of $1599.99; the LT-47P789 has an MSRP of $2199.99; the LT-52P789 has an MSRP of $3199.99. All but the LT-52P789 are available now. The LT-52P789 will be coming out in August.

Ah the race for the world’s thinnest display – does it really matter if your display is 50 mm or say.. 70mm thick? I suppose for bragging rights it does to some companies. In any event, JVC plans on introducing the world’s thinnest LCDs with built-in tuners in July as part of their Procision series of HDTV sets. The new slim sets measure 1.5 inches or 39 mm deep and have a maximum depth of 2.9 inches or 74 mm. There will be two screen sizes available – the 42 inch LT-42SL89 and the 46 inch LT-46SL89 – with both offering full HD resolutions at 1920 x 1080.

According to JVC, the new thin bezel was made possible thanks to a new JVC developed slim panel backJVC, LT-42SLlight unit and power supply substrate or chassis. The new backlight unit is 40 percent smaller in depth and bezel width compared to conventional LCD backlight units.

Now reducing the depth of the backlight means CCFL light sources are closer to the panel than ever before which can result in uneven hot spots appearing on the display. To overcome this problem, JVC has optimized the light diffusing plates and light reflection sheets and improved the overall composition resulting in a more uniform light-diffusion at all corners and edges without the need for more CCFL tubes.

Other features include:

Three HDMI inputs

Two component inputs

One S-Video input

PC input

Front touch-sensor controls

Headphone jack

USB picture viewer

Illuminated universal remote control

The LT-42SL89 will be available in July for $1899.99. The LT-46SL89 will also be available in July for $2399.99

The system can accommodate two iPods side by side charging them both simultaneously. You can also choose to play back music from either iPod through the dock’s built-in speaker system. The dock also comes with an AM/FM tuner, clock, timer, remote control, and an analog audio input for connecting other audio devices.
JVC is launching the new Everio S Series memory camcorder, the GZ-MS100, which offers one-touch video uploading to YouTube. The GZ-MS100 is smaller than the current Everio G Series camcorder lineup and weighs a mere 0.60 lbs including the battery. The GZ-MS100 records video straight to an SD card instead of a hard drive which helps to lighten the overall device.

One-touch video uploads is provided by a Cyberlink software application which you’ll need to install on your PC. Creating a video suitable for YouTube is pretty straightforward. The GZ-MS100 comes with an UPLOAD button which works in two ways. When you’re ready to shoot a video, press the UPLOAD button and then the trigger button. This will limit the video recording to a maximum of 10 minutes which matches the YouTube file size limit. Once you’ve finished your video recording, connect the GZ-MS100 to your PC and then press the UPLOAD button again. This will launch the Cyberlink application and upload the recorded video to YouTube.

Features of the JVC Everio GZ-MS100 include:

Laser Touch Operation

Scroll bar and buttons are touch-sensitive

2.7 inch LCD display

Auto Backlight Control

Auto Power ON/OFF – open the LCD to power-on and start shooting

2 hour 5 minute battery life with BN-VF808 rechargeable battery

KONIC MINOLTA LENS – 35x optical zoom

JVC proprietary Gigabrid Engine

Six digital noise reduction systems improves S/N ratio by 30 percent

Integrated MPEG-2 encoder

Program AE with shooting modes (Night, Twilight, Portrait, Sports, Snow, Spotlight)

The JVC GZ-MS100 will be available in June for an MSRP of $349.99.
