Housed in a sleek glossy jet black chassis resembling a flat panel TV, the One ZX features an adjustable back stand, integrated speakers, silver and clear acrylic accents, and illuminated feet and keyboard.

What makes the One ZX particularly interesting is the built-in multi-touch display which leverages Windows 7’s multi-touch capabilities to provide users with a whole new way of interacting with the Windows desktop. Gateway’s TouchGadgets include:

TouchMusic – create and move music, albums and playlists between multiple devices and applications to enjoy music when and where consumers want it.

TouchPhoto – view, enjoy and share digital photos simply.

TouchMediaShare – enjoy and share digital media such as video, create slideshows and easily store, share and upload it with a single touch.

TouchFriends – make social networks easier to access and more intimate with one-touch access to Facebook and Flikr.

It might be the start of summer but for many companies, it’s actually the beginning of the all-important back-to-school season. Gateway announced this week two new back-to-school desktop PCs – the small form factor SX Series and the compact (though boring looking) DX Series mini-tower line. As usual, here’s the low-down to the new desktop PCs from Gateway.

Gateway SX Series:

The SX Series is Gateway’s first small form factor desktop PC lineup – ideal for small spaces such as a dorm room or a den. The first model in the new SX series is the $499.99 SX2800-01 featuring an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor clocked at 2.33GHz. Here are the rest of the specs to the SX2800-01:

If you’re looking for something with a bit more oomph (although a quad core processor isn’t exactly tiny in power), then the compact DX Series might be for you. The DX Series offers several expansion capabilities including two external 5.25 inch drive bays, three 3.5 inch drive bays and several expansion slots for additional cards. Two available systems include the DX4300-03 and the DX4820-02. Here’s what you need to know about the two systems:

The company announced today that they were planning to move to a 100 percent indirect sales model – adapting the sales model that has made parent company Acer successful over the last several years. This basically means that the only way to get a Gateway system will be through a partner of some sort – such as a retailer, or e-tailer, or a channel partner. Current retailers/e-tailers include Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Costco, HSN, Newegg, Tiger Direct, Office Depot, OfficeMax, and Wal-Mart.

PC Magazine has published a review of the new Gateway XHD3000 desktop LCD monitor here on their website. The XHD3000 is one monster of a desktop LCD display with a screen size of 30 inches and a display resolution of 2560 x 1600. Other specs to the XHD3000 include the following:

16 x 10 aspect ratio

400 cd/m2 brightness

1000:1 contrast ratio

176 degree viewing angle

6ms response time

50,000 hour lamp life

16.7 million color support

20.8 lbs

Measures 22.25 x 27.5 x 9.5 inches

Gateway DXP Audio Sound System

Perhaps the coolest feature of this massive display is the wealth of connections the XHD3000 supports. You get:

1 HDMI port

VGA port

DVI-D port

Composite video

S-Video

Component Video

Discrete audio inputs with analog, coax, and SPDIF audio out

4 USB 2.0 ports

Unfortunately all this doesn’t come cheap for the XHD3000. The display costs a whopping $1699.99. Here’s the verdict from PC Magazine:

Gateway’s XHD3000 lets you connect a variety of devices, and does an excellent job displaying them at almost any resolution. It also offers one of the most flexible picture-in-picture features we’ve seen to date.

LaptopMag has published a review of one of the new Gateway T-series notebooks - the T-6815. This smooth looking $899 notebook features the following specs (these are the reviewed model specs):

Intel Core 2 Duoo T5250 processor running at 1.5GHz

Windows Vista Home Premium OS

1GB of RAM expandable to 4GB

160GB HDD

8X DVD burner

14.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution

Intel GMA 965 X3100 graphics

Measures 13 x 9.7 x 1.3 inches and weighs 5.6 lbs

Here’s the verdict from LaptopMag:

The Gateway T-6815 strikes the right balance of killer craftsmanship, performance, and price. We wish there were a discrete graphics option out of the gate–and that tech-support hours didn’t depend on where the system is purchased–but overall this is a bold and satisfying effort.

On a serious note – this machine doesn’t at all look like a Gateway system right? Looks more like an HP notebook or a Alienware system. Kudos to Gateway for improving their look!
