P-7000_216x144 Epson America announced last week new tethering capabilities for their P-6000 and P-7000 line of multimedia photo viewers that allow users to instantly view and save images to the viewer as they’re shot.

Tethering involves connecting the Epson multimedia photo viewer to a digital SLR camera via a USB cable. Once connected, images saved to the camera’s memory card will also be backed up to the viewer’s hard drive allowing the photographer to preview images immediately on the 4 inch high resolution LCD display. The latest update also includes a remote shutter release function for additional convenience.

The new tethering feature will be released in late-October as a free download on epson.com and is compatible with select Nikon and Canon digital SLR cameras.

P-6000_216x144 Other features of the P-6000 (80GB) and P-7000 (160GB) multimedia photo viewers include:

  • Large 4-inch LCD with exclusive Epson Photo Fine Premia technology displays over 16.7 million colors
  • Convenient jog dial to quickly scroll through images

  • Zoom function to confirm image focus and fine detail

The Epson P-6000 has an MSRP of $599.99 while the P-7000 has an MSRP of $799.99.

In addition to the new MovieMate 60 combo projector announced last week, Epson also introduced their latest affordable 3LCD home theater projector – the PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD. With a starting price of $749.99, the 705HD allows consumers to watch movies and TV, play video games, and view photos in 720p high definition resolutions at display sizes up to 120 inches.

Features and specs to the PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD include:

  • 25 percent brighter with up to 2,500 color and white light output for viewing in dark or light rooms

Those of you looking for a svelte Windows Home Server box will want to check out the new Epson SV120h Endeavor box. This Mac mini wanna-be measures a mere 75 x 185 x 195mm and comes packed with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor (or a slower Celeron 575 processor), up to 1TB of HDD (via 2×500GB drives), 1GB of RAM, an Intel GM45 Express chipset, and a SuperMulti DVD slot drive. External ports allow you to add more storage capacity should the need arises. According to Akihabara News, the Celeron version will have a price of 65,000 Yen.

Epson’s new line of portable multimedia projects, the Epson PowerLite 1720, 1725, 1730W, and 1735W, are now shipping worldwide with prices ranging from $1299 to $1649. The new projectors feature:

  • Quick Wireless Connection USB Key: Use a USB key to configure/setup a projector and notebook for ad-hoc wireless networking

  • USB Plug n’ Play Connectivity : USB connection for “plug-and-play” projection, including video display with accompanying audio, as well as control of PowerPoint presentations using the “page up” and “page down” buttons on the remote

  • Epson 3LCD Technology

  • Energy Efficiency: Offers Epson E-TORL lamp technology which allows the projector to achieve more efficiency by projecting more light output in lumens (brightness) per watt and relatively lower overall power consumption than competitive models.
