eMachines enters the home theater PC (HTPC) market with the recent introduction of the Mini-e Home Entertainment Center. About the size, shape, and weight of a small book, the Mini-e (model ER1402) features an energy efficient AMD Athlon II Neo processor, NVIDIA graphics, an HDMI port, and 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium – definitely all the makings for an inexpensive HTPC. Features and specs to the Mini-e are as follows:

  • Single-core AMD Athlon II Neo Processor K125 clocked at 1.7GHz with 1MB L2 cache, 1066MHz Front-Side Bus
  • NVIDIA nForce 9200 chipset
  • 2GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 160GB 5400RPM SATA HDD
  • Media card reader with support for SD, MMC, MS, and xD Picture Card
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9200 integrated graphics
  • HD audio
  • Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Wireless keyboard and mouse
  • 4 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port, VGA port, 2 HD audio jacks, microphone jack, optical S/PDIF, and Ethernet port
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
  • Measures 7.1 x 1.2 x 7.1 inches and weighs 9 lbs

If you ask me, this has all the makings for an inexpensive Boxee-based PC and is certainly a competitive alternative to the Dell Inspiron Zino HD. The eMachines ER1402 is available now for a suggested price of $299.99.
