Interestingly enough, hardware customizations are next to nill as most of the option add-ons are external drives, additional software, and additional batteries. The 40WHr battery will cost you an extra $100 dollars. So in reality, the starting system priced of $1799 is really all you need except for maybe an additional battery. Not too shabby.. though still pricey for most consumers.

As to when it ships – preliminary ship dates show 12/23/2009 – ah… a Christmas gift indeed.

One can only guess as to what kind of MID this might be in light of the fact that the company recently announced their first Android-based handset for the Chinese and Brazilian market in the form of the Mini 3.

And speaking of the Mini 3, DigiTimes also reports that Foxconn Electronics is responsible for the production of these handsets. Foxconn will manufacture a 2.75G version of the handset for China and a 3G version for the Brazilian market.

Confirming what most in the mobile industry already knew, Dell announced last week they were entering the smartphone market with the announcement and introduction of the Android-powered Dell Mini 3 smartphone. Dell also announced two mobile carrier partnerships, China Mobile – with a customer base of over 500 million customers, and Claro – a mobile network serving over 42 million customers in Brazil, both of which will carry the new Mini 3 smartphone.

According to a China Mobile spokesperson:

“We are excited for Dell to be among the first manufacturers to introduce new technology based on the OPhone platform. We look forward to working with Dell as it brings innovative new products and services to add value to our customers’ lives.”

Details of the phone models will be announced on a partner-by-partner basis when the devices become available in stores. (Let’s hope the MIni 3’s specs are better than the original rumors). The Mini 3 is expected in late November for China Mobile and by the end of the year for Claro.

The Dell Inspiron Zino HD is a new affordable compact desktop PC introduced last week and suitable for a wide range of tasks – everything from basic computing to media center activities. Measuring a mere 7.5 inches square and 3.5 inches tall, the Zino HD looks great anywhere in the home or office. Outfit the system with an optional Blu-ray drive and a dual-core AMD Neo processor and the Zino HD could very well function as a low-end HTPC system.

The Zino HD has a starting price of $229 and is available in 10 colors making it an attractive option to folks considering nettop systems. Features of the Zino HD include:

AMD processors or dual core Athlon Neo X2 6850e

Up to 8GB dual channel DDR2 memory

Up to 1TB internal hard drive space

Combo DVD/CD-RW drive with optional Blu-ray disc combo

Gigabit Ethernet with wireless option

Optional wireless keyboard and mouse

Built-in 2.1 HD audio and 4 in 1 media card reader

Integrated ATI graphics adapter with standard HDMI and VGA video connections and optional 512MB discrete ATI graphics adapter

Four USB 2.0 ports and two eSATA ports

One thought does come up with the Zino HD – is this system a better choice than say the Apple Mac mini? It’s not entirely clear in our opinion. On the low end of the spectrum, it’s hard to argue with the price of the $229 Zino HD. However, configure the Zino HD with more powerful AMD processor options, and it’s harder to say which is the better deal. If you’re concerned about processor performance than the $599 Mac mini clearly has the better processor with the 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. However, you’ll get more hard drive capacity and more system memory with the Zino HD in this price range – both important for media center considerations. You can even configure a Zino HD with a low-end AMD processor, 3GB RAM, DVD burner, 500GB HDD, integrated graphics and an 18.5 inch HD monitor for $549 – $50 dollars less than the Mac mini.

Not a bad deal – especially if you need a fully configured basic PC system.

There’s certainly no doubt that the newly announced Dell Adamo XPS is a work of art (and wonder!). But after reading Mike S’s blog posting over at Direct2Dell, I have a much better appreciation of this incredible notebook.

First off – if you’re wondering what it means to be only 9.99mm think – consider what Mike says:

“to give you an idea of how thin 9.99mm is, most cell phones today are thicker. The current iPhone is 12.3mm thick and a common USB port, found on most computers these days, is 7.5mm.”

That’s right – the Adamo XPS is actually thinner than that iPhone in your pocket (yeah let’s face it – you know you probably have an iPhone in there). Taking the thinness into consideration, it’s absolutely incredible that Dell managed to pack in features such as an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, a roomy 128GB SSD, and a 13.4 inch display.

Make sure to head on over to Direct2Dell’s website to read up on the Adamo XPS. Also, check out Brian Solis’s webpage for additional pictures of the Adamo XPS (which are shown in this posting).

As Lionel puts it, Latitude ON is “basically a system on a system” thanks to the dedicated low-voltage TI OMAP 3430 processor (an ARM core) found inside the notebook. Couple the low-power processor with a slimmed down version of Linux and you have a quick booting system providing business information as well as access to the Internet via a Firefox-based web browser (without Flash support).

Features of Latitude ON include:

Instant access (approximately 2 seconds) to business info such as e-mail, calendar, contacts, web browser, and Citrix Receiver client

MS Exchange or POP email access

Always-on/connected – module rules regardless of the state of the main OS

View Office documents and PDF documents

17 hours of battery life on a 6 cell battery

Flash upgradeable

On the connectivity side of the equation, Latitude ON connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi or embedded mobile broadband. Check out additional video footage provided by Dell via YouTube.

If you happen to be in the vicinity of Shanghai, China, you might want to check out Dell’s new flagship “Experience Store” which launched last week. According to the Direct2Dell blog site, the “new store provides a single location where our consumers can truly discover, try and buy Dell products and enjoy the fun of self expression.”

Sounds a bit like an Apple retail store eh?

The article continues:

“The Dell Experience store showcases the entire Dell consumer product portfolio and delivers “over-the-counter personalization”, allowing customers to design every aspect of their PC.”

To accomplish this “personalization”, the Experience Store comes with a “build-to-order bar” where you’ll be able to interact with Dell sales folks who will help you customize/personalize your own system.

Oh and one more thing – gamers will love the new Alienware zone where they will be able to test out their “competitive skills” on M17x systems. Expect other Alienware systems to be on hand to try out too… gaming to the max (at least according to Dell).

The Experience Store is located on the first floor of the newly opened Buynow II electronics center at Cao Xi Road and Zhao Jia Bang Road.

Waiting for one of those stores to open up here in the US!

After months of speculation, Dell’s first Android-based smartphone, the Dell Mini 3i, finally made an appearance at China Mobile’s new Application Platform and yes.. it’s a boring phone to say the least.

OK.. the good stuff first. It appears to be a rather thin handset featuring a 3.2 megapixel camera, LED flash, a microSD slot, Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.5 inch 360 x 640 resolution capacitive touch-screen display, and a 950mAh battery. Oh yes, it’s also running Android so that’s always good right?

Now the bad. It’s a 2G only phone and it lacks Wi-Fi – WTH. Got some catching up to do there Dell.
