Sony introduces first multi-channel SA-CD A/V system for the car
Sony introduces their first Super Audio CD (SA-CD) based car audio/video system today in the form of the XAV-W1 in-car video head unit. This is Sony’s first double din-sized visual entertainment system for the car - providing both high quality video and audio as well as connectivity to MP3 players and various personalization options.
Features of the new Sony XAV-W1 include:
- Support for SA-CD playback
- 5.1 channel audio in the form of Dolby Digital surround sound and dts Digital Surround Processing
- 7 inch display with WVGA resolution
- Supports CDs, DVD video playback
- JPEG, WMA, and MP3 file format support
- Satellite radio and Apple iPod ready with controller devices sold separately
- Support for Sony HD Radio tuner
- Includes remote control which allows back seat passengers control of the system
- Rear auxiliary input - universal 3.5 mm mini-plug input
- Delivers 52 watts across four channels
- 3AV input to connect other A/V devices
- Zone by Zone support allows users to set separate audio zones for front and rear seats
The XAV-W1 also allows users to personalize the display and sound settings. Users can use the capture feature to set their wallpaper to whatever their favorite image on the display. The XAV-W1 costs about $800 dollars and will be available in August.
If double-din isn’t your flavor, Sony also has their new MEX-DV2000 single din car stereo. The system supports multi-channel playback through Dolby Digital surround sound and dts Digital Surround Processing. Features include:
- WMA, MP3 file format support
- Sony X-DSP, CSO and intelligent time alignment technologies ensure high quality sound from anywhere in the car
- Delivers 52 watts across four channels
- Key illumination
- Detachable faceplate for security
- Supports Satellite Radio, HD radio and iPod control readiness
- Comes with remote control and auxiliary input on the faceplate
- Supports DVD, DVD-R/RW, SA-CD, VCD, CD and CD-R
