History

The history of Krunker as told by Felix.

Krunker has it’s original roots from another website called WhiningDog.NET, which was founded back in December of 2001. It all started with this article here and from that point on, I knew I had a passion for writing about technology. My early days were focused on computer enthusiast articles such as motherboard reviews, small form factor PCs, and of course gadgets. Over time, my focus shifted from DIY computers to consumer electronics and hence in early 2005, WhiningDog was retired and Krunker was founded.

Krunker officially launched on March 26th, 2005 and has grown steadily over the last several years. The site’s main focus has been in delivering news and reviews about the very latest in technology from all around the world. Over the last two plus years, we’ve covered topics such as:

  • Consumer Electronics
  • Gaming
  • Computers
  • Technology
  • Digital Home
  • Telecommunications

and much much more! Along the way, we founded something called Krunker Media which is essentially a network of associated websites covering different topics. Krunker Media currently consists of the following sites:

  • Krunker.com
  • ZuneSphere.com - everything about the Microsoft Zune media player
  • KrunkerHD.com - all things high definition
  • KrunkerHome.com - all things home theater PC related (though we need to revamp the site a bit)

And soon, we will launch KrunkerMobile.com - a new website dedicated to all things mobile.

So you’re probably wondering how we got the name “Krunker” right? I was browsing on UrbanDictionary.com one day and came across the word “Krunk” which apparently was first used on Conan O’Brien (even that’s contentious). Krunk has several supposed meanings of course - some think it’s a swear word, some think it’s about having a good time, while others think it’s about getting intoxicated.

Well we’re not particularly sure what Krunk is supposed to be mean but we take it as follows - being intoxicated about technology and having a good time with it or perhaps “Good stuff”. OK.. that’s a bit lame. The truth is - we thought “Krunk” was just a cool word so we turned it into “Krunker” (especially since Krunker was available as a domain name and not Krunker)

Our Mission

So what exactly is Krunker all about? Our mission is as follows - to report on:

“Technology Around the World.”

This means you’ll find anything and everything about technology and consumer related electronics here at Krunker.

Other projects, Felix is involved in include ZuneSphere.com and KrunkerHome.com.

Yvonne Chu - Staff Editor

Yvonne has been a part of Krunker.com since the early days of the blog and even had a big hand in coming up with the final name of the site. Her background is in database and reporting management but outside of work, you’ll find her playing loads of volleyball. However, don’t be fooled by that - she’s totally a cool uber-geek lady with a keen eye for consumer electronics! You can find her here at Krunker as chuey and her email is ychu at krunker.com

Michael Chung - Intern/Staff Reporter

Michael joined the Krunker team this summer as an Intern/Staff Reporter. Mike’s interests include Computers and Gadgets (which fits in nicely with Krunker.com of course) and he’s an avid reader of sites like Slashdot, TechCrunch, Gizmodo and DPReview. We’re happy to have Mike for the summer and hopefully for the long haul. You can reach Mike at mchung at krunker.com

Alan Sung - Staff Reporter

Alan’s been a bit busy recently but when he’s NOT playing with the Nintendo Wii, he covers our mobile phone category. You’ll soon see him covering KrunkerMobile.com which is the new Krunker Media website for mobile phones.
