It looks like one avenue to get an iPhone 4 has come and gone.

Engadget and BGR are both reporting that AT&T has sold out of it’s launch day allotment of the iPhone 4. Anyone who managed to get in their order after 1:30pm PST today will get their iPhone 4 sometime between June 25th and July 5th- depending on when they ordered it. Here’s what AT&T had to say to Engadget earlier today:

Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed. We’ll email customers with confirmation once their order is placed, and again when it ships. In addition, we will have devices available on a first-come, first-serve basis in our stores beginning on June 24.

With that said, you CAN still get an iPhone 4 on June 24th – just not through AT&T (although you might get lucky by heading into one of the retail stores and seeing if they have one unreserved). You simply need to reserve one for pickup at an Apple store for that day by heading over to the Apple website. I managed to do just fine – although getting the reduced upgrade price can be tricky since it depends on Apple getting through to the overwhelmed AT&T servers and verifying that you’re eligible for the upgrade price. I do assume that you can reserve at full price and then have Apple employees check on launch day that you’re eligible for the upgrade price. Right Apple???
