Move over Nexus One. There’s a new king of the hill in the Android camp and that king is the new Samsung Galaxy S.
Introduced today at CTIA Wireless 2010 in Las Vegas, the Galaxy S is an Android 2.1 based smartphone featuring:
- 4.0 inch Ultra Brilliant Super AMOLED display
- 1 GHz Application Processor
- 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity
- HD video recording
- 16 GB internal storage
- microSD support
- Android 2.1 OS
- Google Mobile Services
- Layar Reality Browser for S Edition
- e-Book software
- Social Hub which provides access to social networking sites and email
- sync multiple accounts automatically
- one place to manage call, SMS/MMS, email, SNS history
- summary view of all email, SNS messaging, IM chat, and SMS/MMS messages
- A thickness of 9.9 mm
JK Shin, the head of Samsung’s mobile phone business was also on hand to show off the new Android handset.
I briefly played with the Galaxy S (having pushed through a hoard of reporters and onlookers mind you!) and here are some of my initial impressions:
- It’s a beautiful device – very reminiscent of the Apple iPhone
- It’s thin and light – again – very comparable to the iPhone
Here’s a picture of the iPhone (inside a PowerMat case) next to the Galaxy S
- The 4 inch display is absolutely beautiful – colors just pop out from the screen
- Thanks to the 1GHz processor, the phone is fast and responsive
More importantly, this is the first Android smartphone I could actually picture myself ditching the iPhone for. And now, here are pictures of the Galaxy S.
