Onkyo announces new 3D-ready receivers and home theater systems
Get ready for an onslaught of 3D-ready audio/video receivers and home theater systems now that 3D-enabled flat panels and 3D-enabled Blu-ray players are emerging onto the scene.
The reason for the new receivers? HDMI 1.4.
If you plan on routing that A/V signal from your 3D Blu-ray player to your receiver and then to your 3D HDTV then you’ll need a receiver with support for HDMI 1.4. (yeah that pretty much sucks for me since I just recently purchased a new Denon receiver during the holidays – it supports HDMI 1.3 – ugh).
One of the first manufacturers out of the starting gate this month will be Onkyo as they’ve announced three new A/V receivers and three home theater systems (Onkyo calls the “home theater in a box or HTiB”– all with support for HDMI 1.4. Common features on all of the Onkyo systems include:
- Support for decoding lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
- 192 kHz/24 bit Burr-Brown PCM1690 DACs
- Onkyo’s new onscreen graphical user interface which overlays the current display into the background so you can watch your program while editing menu items
- HDMI Thru support – allows content to pass through to the television state even when the receiver is in a standby state
- Some receivers have as many as 6 HDMI inputs plus component and composite video inputs, optical/coaxial digital inputs, stereo input jacks, and front-panel connections
