HSTi’s new Wireless Media Stick acts as a convenient wireless bridge between your multimedia content and devices that support playback of such files. Content found on the network can now be easily accessed by devices that have USB ports but lack a networking component.
For example – the Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player plays content directly off of connected external hard drives yet lacks a networking component for retrieving content from the network. Should you NOT want to get the “Live” version of the devices, you could connect the Wireless Media Stick and then wirelessly stream content from your PC or NAS directly to the WD TV HD Media Player.
Setup is super easy – simply plug the device into your PC for configuration, and then plug it into the device you want to stream content to.
The Wireless Media Stick is compatible with hundreds of devices with USB ports including DVD/Blu-ray players, TV’s, stereo systems, PCs, laptops, video game consoles, and digital picture frames.
The unit is also firmware upgradeable. Specs include:
- 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi
- USB 2.0 interface
- Support for WEP 64/128, WPA/WPA2, TKIP, and AES
About the only complaint we have is the price. At $119.99, the device is more expensive than many non-networked media playback devices out there. If you get a WD TV HD Media Player for $99 dollars and then opt for this device, the entire cost jumps to more than $200 dollars. You’re better off getting the WD TV Live player for around $149.99. However, if you have a device that you simply cannot part with, and you want to add networking capabilities to the device, then the Wireless Media Stick is certainly a convenient way to upgrade the device.
