Samsung first to mass produce 3D panels
Samsung announced today they have become the first company to “commence mass production of panels for 3D LED TVs and 3D LCD TVs”.
Announced at CES 2010, Samsung began producing LED and LCD panels this month for 40 inch, 46 inch, and 55 inch full-HD 3D TVs using “3D Active Glasses” and featuring 240Hz refresh rates.
Not familiar with “3D Active Glasses”? They work by first blocking the left lens and then the right lens causing a momentary lag when images are displayed to each eye to achieve more lifelike 3D images.
3D displays were all the rage at CES 2010 with every major consumer electronics vendor announcing 3D-enabled products for 2010. It’s not entirely clear that Samsung will benefit from being a first mover in this space – especially when 3D displays benefit the most from 3D content being readily available – not to mention 3D enabled Blu-ray players.
