polk audio wireless sub If there’s one annoying thing about home theater systems – it’s the wiring that is often necessary to connect all the speakers to the receiver, especially the rear speakers and the subwoofer.

Polk Audio is attempting to address the subwoofer route today with the announcement of a new lineup of three high-performance DSW Pro Digital Subwoofers that can be connected wirelessly to practically any home theater system thanks to a simple plug-and-play kit.

The wireless kit is made up of a compact wireless transmitter and a small wireless dongle (pictured above). The wireless dongle connects to the subwoofer’s amplifier plate in seconds and uses the sub’s power supply so no additional AC power connection is necessary. A wireless transmitter connects to the A/V receiver and delivers bass signals to the sub without latency or compression.

The three new wireless-ready subs (meaning they don’t come with the wireless kit which you need to buy separately) are the:

  • DSW PRO 440wi – Compact 8 inch subwoofer with 300 watts of power priced at $449
  • DSW PRO 550wi – 10 inch subwoofer with 400 watts of power priced at $559
  • DSW PRO 660wi – 12 inch subwoofer with 500 watts of power priced at $679

The PWSK1 wireless kit can be purchased for $119. All the new subwoofers will be available in the second quarter of 2010.
