Micron announces RealSSD C300 SSD
Micron Technology announces the RealSSD C300 Solid State Drive (SSD) which they’re labeling as the “industry’s fastest for notebook and desktop PCs.” Helping to achieve these speeds is the fact that the new C300 natively supports both the current SATA 3Gb/s interface as well as the next generation SATA 6Gb/s interface.
Supporting SATA 6Gb/s means the C300 will be able to achieve read throughput speeds up to 355MB/s and write throughput speeds up to 215MB/s.
On the inside, the C300 utilizes Micron’s 34nm MLC NAND flash memory allowing it to support large capacities while remaining cost-competitive. The MLC’s also support the high-speed ONFI 2.1 standard which ensures NAND performance keeps up with the upcoming SATA 6 Gb/s interface.
The new drives will be available in both 1.8 inch and 2.5 inch form factors with both drives coming in 128GB and 256GB storage capacities. Expect the new C300 to enter production during the first quarter of 2010.
