2.8 million households still not ready for DTV switchover this Friday
With the digital TV switchover set to take place in two days, the folks at the Nielsen Company have announced that roughly 2.8 million American households (or 2.5% of the television market) are still not ready for the transition. The breakdown is even more interesting – Nielsen states that younger, African American, and Hispanic homes are “disproportionately unready, while the elderly are the most ready.”
The one good thing about these statistics? The number has been steadily dropping since the beginning of the year when the Federal government delayed the initial switchover date (5.1 million households were not ready back in Feb 1st).
So folks – if you’re not on cable or digital satellite and you’re still dependent on over-the-air transmissions, make sure to get yourself a digital converter box (unless of course you have a tuner built into your HDTV set). Two more days to go!
