attfamilymap Here’s a couple of interesting AT&T wireless news items from last week.

First off, AT&T has a new tracking service out dubbed “AT&T FamilyMap” which allows users to track multiple handsets via a web browser on a PC or mobile device. Users will be able to view the handset’s location on a map with surrounding landmarks identified. You’ll also have the option to switch between satellite and interactive street maps.

Other features of FamilyMap include:

  • Ability to customize mapping experience by assigning names and photos to devices within the account
  • Label familiar places on the map
  • Schedule and receive alerts at specified time intervals via email or text messages
  • Locate any phone where a billing relationship can be established
  • Tools that give primary account owner control in managing privacy preferences

Users are notified via a text message when their phone first becomes locatable on the service (a little warning to say “I see you!”).  AND just in case you forget, you’ll receive periodic reminders that Big Brother is still watching you over time.  Account owners will receive notification requests when someone asks to track your phone. You’ll then be able to accept or deny the request.

FamilyMap will cost $9.99 a month for up to 2 phones or $14.99 for up to 5 phones. Your first 30 days are free.
