Apple places large order of flash memory; 32GB iPhone on the horizon?
Here’s some fuel for the iPhone rumor mill. A new Lazard Capital Markets research report states that Apple has supposedly ordered a whopping 100 million units of 8 gigabit and 16 gigabit NAND flash chips – the majority of which will be supplied by Samsung (which also happens to be the major iPhone chip supplier for Apple). A large order like this can only mean one thing. Apple is preparing for a new product release – most likely a new version of the iPhone perhaps featuring 32 GB of storage space?
Of course Apple could simply be prepping new 16GB models but that’s somewhat unlikely given the fact that it appears the company is attempting to clear the channels of 16GB models right now. It’s more than likely that whatever new iPhone (and iPod touch) model is planned for this year will at the very least feature an expanded storage capacity.
Daniel Amir of Lazard Capital also thinks Apple could begin producing the new units as early as this month or next, in time for a June release.
OK.. new software.. new storage capacities.. what else is in store?
