Samsung Android phone

OK now.. don’t laugh ok? (I say this because I found myself laughing at this snapshot too). Heh.. What we have here is a supposed still image (presumably shot from a distance?) of a Android-based Samsung handset courtesy of the Netherlands website – GSM Helpdesk. Specs are scarce at this time but the website did have this to say:

  • Candybar style handset (pretty obvious from the picture)
  • Capacitive touch-screen display
  • Built-in webcam with either a 3.2 or 5 megapixel resolution
  • 528MHz processor of some sort on the inside
  • microSD card slot
  • Quad-band GSM support
  • UMTS, HSDPA 7.2 and HSUPA 1.4 support

Expect two versions to be available for this handset – one for the U.S. with UMTS 900 support and one for the European-Asian market with UMTS 2100 support.

Here’s a machine translation version of the text from the posting:

By TIM Wijkman-on the dealershow of Samsung in the RAI in Amsterdam, Samsung has today, for the first time shown its android phone. Although specific details still lacking, we can be the first photographs of this new aircraft. The first android telephone, Samsung is a candybar appliance with a large touchscreen screen. The appliance is equipped with a so-called “capacitief touchscreen”, a display which is very good reacts to the contact with a finger. This type screen is also used in for example, the apple iphone and the T-Mobile G1.

The telephone is also equipped with a camera. Information on the resolution of the camera, Samsung has still not be disclosed, but it can be expected that this is a 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera will cover.
The telephone is according to our information equipped with a 528 MHz processor. Samsung or their own processor has used is not known. The apparatus has “Many” internal memory and is upgradeable through microsd memory cards. Moreover lack precise figures on the memory also still.
In terms of its network support is the first android aircraft of Samsung obviously right up to date. The appliance offers Quad-band GSM support (GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900) and of course to 3G support thought in the form of UMTS, hsdpa 7.2 and hsupa 1. 4. The apparatus is expected in two versions on the market, one for the American market with UMTS 900 and one for the Euro-Asian market with UMTS 2100.

As usual Affairs set 2.0 with a2dp, full e-mail and Internet support and all known google applications such as google or (with streetview and latitude) and gmail are naturally present in this apparatus. It is unclear whether the first Samsung android phone is equipped with a digital compass. It is from the photograph that the apparatus possibly touch-sensitve review has, but the latter would be somewhat unusual for a android phone.

samsung’s first android phone today is not yet been officially announced, but a notice is not far away. Where the appliance is announced is still unclear.
