Apple to host special event on March 17th to discuss iPhone 3.0 software and SDK
iPhone owners, mark your calendars. Apple sent out invitations to a March 17th special event to be held in Cupertino where the company will be discussing their iPhone 3.0 software and SDK plans. This comes a little over a year after Apple had their iPhone 2.0 “special event” where they officially introduced the concept of the App Store.
So what can we expect from the third generation software update? There’s certainly a lot of guesses. Here’s a high level summary of features that developers are wishing/hoping for in the third version of the software:
- Copy and Paste functionality – dear god let there be copy and paste – at least we can have something from the 1980’s in the phone!
- “True background processing” for applications. Yes.. not exactly a hard thing to do but something Apple has shied away from claiming background apps will drain your handset’s battery and will complicate the user experience (especially if they have to figure out how to close the background apps). Sorry, but I’ve always found that to be one lame excuse.
- “Universal Search Capability” since well.. there is none on the iPhone.
- MMS support finally? (via BGR)
- Remote tethering via USB and Bluetooth (via BGR)
And.. because I’m sure you’re wondering – no word on any new hardware developments.
