Advasense Technologies announces today that it is working with Creative Sensor Inc, to create the world’s smallest 5 megapixel autofocus camera module for mobile phones. The compact camera module (CCM) will incorporate Advasense’s ASIO5 – a 5 megapixel, quarter-inch optical format, 1.4u FCP CMOS Image Sensor (CIS). ASIO5 will be on display at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2009.
Creating smaller compact camera modules will mean one important thing. Ultra-compact and ultra-thin mobile handsets will soon feature high resolution image sensors which means we won’t have to give up image quality for compact form factors. Here’s hoping a successors to the iPhone 3G will offer greater than 2.0 megapixel cameras.
