CES 2009 Fri Day 2 048

Always forgetting where you placed your wallet or car keys? If Nokia has its way, you’ll soon be able to find your important items simply by using your phone to track it down. The company showed off their prototype Local Sensor technology at CES 2009 which allows users to find their items through the use of small, low power wireless tags and direction finding-enabled phones. (below is a picture of a wireless tag)

Simply attach the wireless tags to an item you want to track; fire up the application on the Nokia direction-finding-enabled phone, and then use the phone to show you the direction and distance to the object. (I apologize for not having better pictures of the display – clearly the flash overwhelmed the image there).

Let me try and describe what I saw. Basically an arrow is displayed on the screen pointing you to the direction and distance of the tagged object.

Oh and I bet you’re wondering what happens if you misplace your phone? Well find the phone simply by pressing on a button on the tag which alerts the phone to emit a sound.  All of this is purely experimental at this point but I’m sure folks who constantly misplace or lose things would love to check this out when it does become a product.
