ViewSonic introduces new netbook, nettops at CES 2009
Think ViewSonic is all about displays? Well guess what folks – they’re entering the nettop/netbook space with a new “cloud computing initiative”. The company announced three new products today – a new netbook called the VieBook and two nettop systems – the all-in-one VPC100 ViePC, and the attachable PC called the LinkPC. First up, we have the new VieBook:
Specs for the VieBook are similar to other 10 inch netbooks. We have a system with:
- 10.2 inch display
- Intel Atom processor running at 1.6GHz
- 1GB of RAM
- 160GB HDD
- 10/100 Ethernet
- 802.11 b/g WiFi
- Bluetooth
- 1.3 megapixel webcam
- 4 in 1 card reader
- Windows XP Home Edition OS
- Three battery life
The VieBook will have an MSRP of $429 and is expected in February of this year. Stay tuned for live shots but in the meantime, enjoy these press release stills.
We did however get a chance to see first hand the new VPC100 ViePC all-in-one PC – and folks – this is one sweet looking system.
For $549, you get an 18.5 inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, 1.3 megapixel webcam, DVD+/-RW drive (built into the side), integrated stereo speakers, 3 in 1 card reader, and Windows XP Home Edition. I have to say – this seems like a pretty sweet deal for anyone looking for a second or third computer in the household. Plus – install Windows 7 on this baby and you’ve got yourself a decent performing modern system. The ViePC is due out in February and again – it’s $549!!
Finally, if you feel like converting your existing LCD display into an all-in-one PC, then the new LinkPC is for you. This small PC box attaches to the back of any VESA compatible monitor – turning the monitor into a cost effective, space saving system.
The LinkPC features an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, VGA output, serial port, four USB 2.0 ports, and Windows XP Home.
Price wise – it’s going to be sold for $399 and should be available in March. I have the perfect display for this bad boy too!
