Samsung develops world’s brightest LCD digital signage panel
Samsung announced that they’ve developed the brightest panel in the world to be mass produced in the form of a new 70 inch diagonal “super bright” LCD digital signage panel. The new 2000 nit LCD panel is one third brighter than the previous brightest panel and is designed for outdoor usage where bright vivid colors are necessary under a variety of conditions. The new panel, which Samsung categorizes as a digital information display (DID) will be available for use in digital signs for a variety of outdoor capacities such as transit centers, bus shelters, museums, and retail centers. Other interesting features of the new “super bright” DID include the following:
- 4x the brightness of typical LCD TVs
- Brightness can be lowered at night
- Utilizes local dimming LED technology which continually adjusts picture brightness in “localized” increments “thereby avoiding to brighten areas that don’t require brightening”
- Dynamic contrast ratio up to 20,000:1
- Full HD resolutions
- 178 degree viewing angle
- Weighs 80 kg
- Measures 1630 x 952 x 129.6 mm
- Used in either portrait or landscape mode
Samsung expects to begin sampling the panel before year end.
