Netflix “Watch Instantly” comes to Mac users via opt-in program
I totally forgot to mention this one last week. Timed in conjunction with the Microsoft PDC held last week in Los Angeles, Netflix announced that they have begun rolling out Silverlight support with their Watch Instantly feature. Netflix had this to say about Silverlight:
“It is expected that Netflix members who watch movies and TV episodes instantly on their computers will enjoy a faster, easier connection and a more robust viewing experience with Silverlight, due to the quality built directly into the player.”
One of the side effects of Netflix moving to Silverlight is the built-in support for Intel-based Macs. The company on Friday announced that Mac users with Netflix subscriptions could now participate in the beta program via an opt-in program. However, Netflix mentioned in their company blog to:
- Expect bugs
- Not all titles are available on Silverlight
- Once you opt into the beta, you’ll need to use Silverlight
Finally, for owners of the Xbox 360 console, don’t forget that you’ll soon be able to enjoy Netflix streaming straight to the console. I can’t wait.
