Now that XOHM has launched a WiMAX wireless network in Baltimore, Acer has announced the availability of two WiMAX-enabled Intel Centrino 2 notebooks. The two new notebooks, the Aspire 4930-6862 and Aspire 6930-6771, use the first ever WiMAX/Wi-Fi module (known formerly as “Echo Peak”) – the Intel WiMAX/Wi-Fi Link 5050 Series. WiMAX is designed to be a wireless alternative to broadband technologies such as DSL and Cable and promises to offer download speeds of 2 to 4 Mbps and upload speeds of 1-2 Mbps.
