Nintendo rumored to be releasing new Wii by 2011
Yeah I know.. this is somewhat old news. I meant to post this yesterday but well.. work happens!
In any case, a blog called “What They Play” is claiming that Nintendo will be releasing a new Wii console by 2011. The author “heard from multiple sources in the game development and publishing community that Nintendo is currently showing early presentations of its next home console hardware.” Dubbed as supposedly a true “next generation” Nintendo console, the new Wii HD (unconfirmed name) will supposedly feature:
- High Definition support
- Local storage – hard drive or flash
- Emphasis on digitally distributed content as well as backward compatible content
It really should be no surprise that Nintendo would be scheduling their next generation console for 2011. This puts the new console approximately 5 years from the introduction of the current Wii. With the incredible success of the Wii, it only makes sense that Nintendo would want to continue leveraging the momentum for further enhancements. Why wait for the competition to catch up? Continue to put them on the defensive!
