Yes, the Nintendo DS-i is in fact real. The company confirmed today that they would be releasing an update to the Nintendo DS which would feature a slimmer form factor, a slightly larger display, two cameras, and new image and music players. The DS-i will replace the Game Boy Advance card slot in favor of a smaller SD memory slot which allows users to insert SD cards loaded with music, images, and content.
According to News.com, the new DS-i will be:
- 12 percent thinner than the DS
- 3.25 inch display
- 3 megapixel camera on the outside and a lower resolution camera on the inside
- New Internet browser installed on the device
As for pricing and availability – Nintendo plans on releasing the DS-i in Japan on November 1st for $179. International releases will take place in 2009.
