Sony introduced a new high end multimedia notebook series yesterday called the VAIO AW Series. The AW series is the perfect desktop replacement system for folks looking to watch and/or record Blu-ray movies, perform high definition video editing, and work on digital photography tasks. Specs for the VAIO AW Series include:

• Weighs a shy more than 8 lbs (yes.. not an ultra-portable notebook here)
• 18.4 inch extra-wide LCD display with Sony XBRITE-FullHD LCD technology
• Blu-ray optical drive with optional recording capabilities
• HDMI output
• Optional Adobe RGB color compatible LCD screen
• Built-in CF card slot
• Intel Centrino 2 technology
• Up to 1TB of storage
• Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate

Select AW notebooks even come with dual 64GB solid state drives with RAID technology which translates to faster boot-up times and application launches. The VAIO AW will be available in titanium gray and a glossy piano black finish with standard models starting in at around $1600. High end premium models will start at around $2000. Models should begin appearing later this month.
