iPhone 2.1 firmware to feature new GPS functionality
While the iPhone 2.0 firmware is less than a month old, Apple is busy working on the next revision (version 2.1). In fact, beta 1 of this new version is already out to developers and many of the enhancements and changes are focused on the GPS functionality. According to BGR, core location services will be updated to include direction and speed which could be a prelude to turn by turn support. Apple is also rumored to have implemented a beta version of their push background notification service for the 2.1 firmware release.
Finally, a developer looking through the iPhone 2.1 localization strings noticed a couple of interesting strings that might hint at future enhancements to the iPhone including copy and paste functionality (gee we hope so!) and possibly.. just possibly a mobile radio application? You can read more about this at Unwired View.
