Woo hoo! It’s official! Blizzard Entertainment announced Diablo III today and launched the official website along with screenshots, FAQs and of course videos. The game was unveiled today in Paris France at the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational. I along with millions and millions of gamers have been waiting for the next chapter in Diablo for many years and from the look of things.. this game should be awesome.

So what is Diablo III? Here’s an excerpt from the press release:

“Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. “

Some things about the game:

• Five distinct character classes
• Custom 3D graphics engine
• Physics-enhanced interactive and destructible environments
• New quest system
• Random scripted events
• Random level generator
• Online cooperative and competitive play via Battle.net

The game is currently being developed and both a Windows and a Mac version will be released simultaneously. Additional information about the game as well as when it will be released will be announced later on. Yes.. the game is still in development.. but at least it’s in development!
